The Public Trust
“If my baby is sick, the staff will know what to do for him, no matter where I deliver.”

The Reality
Many nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals may have limited experience in stabilizing sick newborns therefore, it is often a challenge for hospital staff to maintain knowledge and skills in this area. Following successful resuscitation, caregivers must turn to other resources for the necessary ongoing and supportive care.

How is the S.T.A.B.L.E Learner course administered?
The Learner course is taught over one to two days in a didactic-interactive format by experts in neonatal nursing, medicine, and respiratory care. Skills stations and simulation are strongly recommended, but not required. Learner courses are arranged by S.T.A.B.L.E. Instructors or administrative personnel at their facility. A Learner course can be taught in-person or by teleconference (Zoom, Teams, etc.). Instructors must follow guidelines from S.T.A.B.L.E. for both in-person and virtual courses.

A Learner course is typically an 8-hour course with quizzes administered during the course. A final mixed-module post-test is given at the end of the course. If skills or simulation are included, then the course takes 1.5 to 2 days to complete. After the course, the Instructor submits a course roster. Once the roster is approved by S.T.A.B.L.E., the instructor distributes course completion cards (provided electronically by S.T.A.B.L.E.) to students. Continuing education credit applications are the responsibility of the Instructor, not The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program.

S.T.A.B.L.E. Instructors are formally trained by our National Faculty. For more information about Instructor courses and who qualifies for the Lead and Support Instructor roles, please go to the Courses tab.

Materials required for the Learner course:

Learner Manual: To receive a Learner Course completion card, each student must have a 6th edition Learner Manual for use during the course. Ideally the student receives the manual one month before the course to allow enough time to study. The Learner manual can be purchased by the student, or provided by the host facility/ Instructor on loan or permanent basis. Visit our store page for more information about how to purchase Learner Manuals.

Course Slides: Instructors teach using module slides that are available from S.T.A.B.L.E.
