Program Administration

The Public Trust

“If my baby is sick, the staff will know what to do for him, no matter where I deliver.”

The Reality

Many nurses, physicians, and allied health professionals may have limited experience in stabilizing sick newborns therefore, it is often a challenge for hospital staff to maintain knowledge and skills in this area. Following successful resuscitation, caregivers must turn to other resources for the necessary ongoing and supportive care.

How is the S.T.A.B.L.E Learner Course administered?

The Learner course is taught over one to two days in a didactic-interactive format by experts in neonatal nursing, medicine, and respiratory care. Skills stations and simulation are strongly recommended, but not required. Learner courses are arranged by S.T.A.B.L.E. Instructors or administrative personnel at their facility. A Learner course can be taught in-person or by teleconference (Zoom, Teams, etc.). Instructors must follow guidelines from S.T.A.B.L.E. for both in-person and virtual courses.

Allow 8 hours to teach the 6th or 7th edition Learner course. At the end of each module, students complete an end of module test. If skills or simulation are included, then the course takes 1.5 to 2 days to complete. After the course, the Instructor submits a course roster. Once the roster is approved by S.T.A.B.L.E., the instructor distributes course completion cards to students. Renewal is recommended every two years. Continuing education credits are awarded by the Instructor’s facility, not The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program.
